Last time we talked about the Sauvage EDT, EDP, and parfum. If, for whatever reason, you missed that one make sure you check out part one to read my thoughts and opinions about the colognes. In this post, I'm going to talk about the Sauvage deodorant, all-over moisturizer, and body wash as well as tell you when and where I think you should wear the EDT, EDP, and parfum.
One small thing to note before I begin: all of the toiletries that I have tried resemble the EDT composition of Sauvage. They do not smell exactly the same, but they have the bold spiciness that is only found in the EDT. The scent is invigorating when used as a body wash and moisturizer. Out of all the kinds of designer toiletries I have used-- Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Montblanc, et cetera-- Dior is by far my favorite.
I don't anticipate this being as long as part one, but hopefully it's just as informative. Let's get right into it...
Dior Sauvage Roll-On Deodorant
Dior Sauvage Roll-On Deodorant (2.6oz)
What exactly is there to say about a deodorant? Dior Sauvage roll-on deodorant gets the job down and smells great while doing it. Unlike drug store brands, the scent of Sauvage deodorant is powerful; in fact, I think the deodorant would suffice on its own without the cologne. Not only that, but it does a great job at keeping my underarms dry, which ultimately is the sole function of wearing deodorant.
A 2.6oz stick goes for $26 retail price, which is actually about four times the price of Old Spice or Axe. But it is completely worth it because this stuff works ten times better. I always thought that deodorant is deodorant and that the brand didn't matter much, but after using Sauvage deodorant for a couple months my views have completely changed.
I'm not going to give this a rating because that would just be silly, but what I can say, is that this is going to be one investment that you'll be glad you made!
Dior Sauvage All-Over Moisturizer
Again, the brand of moisturizer I used didn't matter much to me until I started using the Sauvage all-over moisturizer. It's so luxurious. Unlike most moisturizers I've used in the past, which typically are firm until rubbed into the skin, this stuff comes out of the container soft and almost feels like it's starting to melt on your hand.
Dior Sauvage all-over moisturizer (5oz)
This stuff is expensive though for moisturizer. For a 5oz container it costs $62 retail. That's more than ten times the cost of drug store brands. But much like the deodorant, the moisturizer is an investment you won't regret. The only thing is, because it is so pricy, I wouldn't actually use it "all-over", unless of course you have the money to frequently buy it. I would pick one or two key areas to apply it to; you really do only need to apply a small amount, so as long as you only use it once a day, it has the potential to last for awhile.
The cap is super easy to open and close. No mess required!
Another couple of cool features about the moisturizer: it supposedly can bring back vibrancy to worn out tattoos because of the cactus oil in it, albeit I have not been able to test this, so if anyone knows if it actually works, let me know in the comments. Another thing I love about the Sauvage moisturizer is how easy it is to apply. Some moisturizers can be messy, but with this one you just flip back the cap and apply it to the desired spot. Simple as that and no mess required!
Dior Sauvage Body Wash
The Sauvage body wash is a great addition to your shower. It leaves you feeling clean and ready for the day. The scent is actually pretty strong too for a body wash. I have used several other types of designer body wash including Versace Eros and Dylan Blue, and I have to say Dior Sauvage gives me a deeper, more satisfying kind of clean.
The container it comes in is pretty cool as well. Actually, when I first got it I wasn't sure how to open it because I had been use to getting body wash in a tube. The container this stuff comes with makes it distinct and very easy to pack in a bag. The container doesn't stay wet for very long after using it in the shower, which is awesome if you need to take a shower and pack immediately after.
As for the price, the Sauvage body wash isn't too bad. You can get a 6.7oz bottle for $40 retail price, which, although a bit more pricey than drug store brands, is a little bit cheaper than other designers like Versace.
Like with the deodorant and moisturizer, I don't think you'll regret investing in Sauvage body wash!
When and Where to Wear Sauvage
With three different concentrations and three different levels of performance, it can be difficult choosing which Sauvage to wear for a particular event. Fortunately, I have you covered. Below are ten specific instantces you might want to wear cologne. I feel like I may have missed one or two, so if you want to know what kind of Sauvage to wear to an event not listed, let me know in the comments.
Going to a large party:
I would wear the EDT to a large gathering. You need to assume that there will be many different scents at such an event, and ergo, you should wear something loud. The EDT also smells the most playful and energetic, so it just vibes really well with a party atmosphere. The EDP would also be a viable option, but if you wanted to wear it, I would bring some to reapply at some point.
...to a dinner party:
I would wear the EDP because it has a light projection. Dinner parties are usually small and intimate, and therefore, wearing something that still projects nicely but isn't loud is going to be your best bet. The EDP is a nice midway point between being playful and refined, and typically, dinner parties are going to warrant such an image; i.e. being mature yet fun. The parfum is also a good choice here
...to class:
I would wear the parfum because it doesn't project that much and the smell is probably the most mass-appealing Sauvage. When you are around people you don't know that well, like in a classroom or lecture hall, you don't want to wear something that might annoy or distract others. That's why the parfum is perfect for such environments. The EDP is also a viable option, but I would reserve wearing it to lecture halls or bigger classrooms.
...to the office:
Again, I would wear the parfum, although the EDP would likely be fine as well. In such environments you want something that will smell nice to potential clients, but also not offend anyone else you might work with. The parfum would be your safest option in the office.
...to the store:
I would wear either the EDT or EDP because I would want something that projects pretty well. Depending on where I'm shopping, there is going to be a number of other people doing their own thing around me and possibly wearing their own scents. Therefore, I would want something loud enough to stand out in such an environment.
...on a romantic date:
I would wear the EDP on a romantic date. It's light projection makes it the perfect background scent. The EDT might be too loud depending on what the date is, and the parfum would likely be too subtle. The only exception I would make is if you know you're going to get intimate afterwards. In that case, I would go with the EDT because it performs really well while your body temperature increases.
...to the gym:
I would wear the EDT for the same reason I would wear it on a date I knew was most likely going to end with intimacy. The EDT projects very nicely as your body temperature rises, so when you're lifting weights or using the stairmaster, people around you are going to get a nice smell. And trust me, smelling like cologne at a gym is much better than smelling like body odor. The EDP might do well at the gym too as long as you're doing a light workout.
...on a casual date:
I would wear the EDT because of its playful essence. Especially if it's the first time meeting someone, I would want to wear something that will grab their attention; not something subtle. Sure, there's a chance it might be too much for the person, but I think it's better to smell great than be the guy who is wearing something barely detectable.
...to a special event
Depending on whether the event is inside or outside, I would either wear the parfum or EDP. Both of refined enough for a special event, but the EDP would perform better in larger spaces like outdoor concert halls. The parfum would be ideal for indoor events like a career expo.
Spending time alone
I would go with the EDT if spending the day alone. The EDT smells great, and since it's the least expensive Sauvage, I wouldn't mind using my typical 8 sprays. I might go with the EDP as well depending on how I'm feeling. I wouldn't use the parfum on such days though.
Conclusion
I've talked a lot about the Dior Sauvage line here. I'm sure you can tell how much of a fan I am. But before I wrap-up this two-part series I figured it would make sense for me to pick a favorite Sauvage. So, without further ado, with all things considered (performance, projection, versatility, and price), my favorite scent in this line is....
The EDP.
I just love everything about the EDP. While the other two are great in their own ways, to me the EDP just wins all around. It might seem strange because I gave the EDT a 9.5 whereas I only gave the EDP a 9, but in my opinion, a scent that's a 9 is on par with a scent that's a 10. Kind of like that whole A is an A philosophy.
For now, being stuck in self-isolation, I'm going to primarily use the EDT because it is the least expensive, but once things start to go back to normal, I'm going to start wearing the EDP as my new signature scent.
Well there you have it, I know I said this one probably wasn't going to be as long as the first, but as I was writing the when and where section, I kept thinking of new situations. I hope you still found this post helpful and enjoyable to read.
Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are on the Dior Sauvage Line. After reading the post are you going to go try any particular products? Also, let me know if you would like me to do another extensive review on a different line. I think reviewing different lines makes more sense than reviewing individual products. Either leave a comment or send me an email at tnpersona@gmail.com.
